Melvin Lee Matson

Melvin Lee Matson was born December 29, 1940 in Dewatto, WA, to Ruby and John Matson. He passed away November 4, 2024 at Providence Mother Joseph Care Center in Olympia.

He married Rosemarie DeMiero December 15, 1957 in Belfair, WA. They moved to Shelton and raised six children. Melvin retired from Simpson Timber Company after 46 happy years. He really enjoyed all the years at Grisdale, especially when the kids came up for camping. He loved hunting, fishing, camping and spending time with his grandchildren. He was Santa Claus for many kids in Mason County at parties and parades. He was a member of Saint Edwards Catholic Church.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife (Rosemarie) of 58 years, his oldest daughter (Marilee) and a great-granddaughter. He is survived by sons Michael, Melvin, Matt Matson; daughters Michelle Barrett and Melody Gill; 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers Vic, Ted, John and Jerry Matson. Mel will be deeply missed by many loving family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held March 21, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Saint Edwards Catholic Church, 601 W. "C" St., Shelton, WA.
