Meet your Union neighbors

The Hood Canal Improvement Club hosts a “speed friending” event to meet neighbors from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Union Fire Hall, 50 E. Seattle St., Union.

The group states speed friending “is a fun, fast-paced way to connect with neighbors, whether you’ve never met them before or have known them for years. It’s also a great opportunity to discover something new about people in your community!”

Theater group stages Valentine’s mystery shows

Connection Street Theatre stages “The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940” by John Bishop as a Valentine’s murder mystery dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 14 and 2 p.m. Feb. 15 and 16 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

The Friday show includes a dinner of Mississippi pot roast, mashed potatoes, copper penny carrots, Caesar salad, breadsticks and strawberry pizza with chocolate drizzle. The cost is $35 per person.

The Saturday and Sunday matinees feature a buffet of beef shepherd’s pie with Caesar salad, breadsticks and strawberry pizza with chocolate drizzle. Tickets are at http://www.keystonecenterartsandsci.com/acting-out.

Donors, sponsors sought for annual fundraiser

The Pioneer Kiwanis Club will be hosting its annual seafood dinner, complete with live and silent auctions, on March 22 at Pioneer Elementary School.

The doors open at 4 p.m. and the dinner begins at 4:30 p.m.

The club is seeking donors and sponsors for the event.

The money is used to benefit the children in the Pioneer School District and Mason County and pays for scholarships.

It also supports the Day of Champions program, STEM programs, local food banks and programs that encourage reading and writing in Pioneer Schools.

Tickets are $35 for adults, $15 for kids ages 2 through 10, and free for younger than 2 years old.

Shelton church offers seminar on healing from loss

“Healing From Loss,” a 10-week seminar focusing on understanding and healing the pain of losing a loved one and other major losses, hosts its second session at 2 p.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

Senior center hosts van trips

The Mason County Senior Activities Association hosts trips by van.

On Feb. 6, the van leaves the senior center at 8:15 a.m. for the Seattle Chocolate Factory. The cost is $40 for members, $50 for nonmembers. Bring money for lunch. On Feb. 28, a trip is planned for the Sewing and Stitchery Expo. The cost is $40 for members, $50 for nonmembers.

Nonmembers can go on most van trips if they travel with a friend or family member who is a current MCSSA member and pay the nonmember price, with up to two guests per member. Any passenger who requires physical assistance for a physical or mental limitation must be accompanied by a traveling companion who is able and responsible to assist.

Payment is required in advance to reserve spots. Most trips require a minimum of eight people, and without that they might be canceled. All trips are scent-free for consideration of people with allergies. To make a reservation, call 360-426-7374 or email [email protected].

Polar Bear Plunge at Alderbrook Resort

The Hood Canal Lions Club hosts the 15th annual Polar Bear Plunge from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Alderbrook Resort & Spa.

The plunge is open to anyone who raises a minimum pledge of $30, with all proceeds benefitting Mason County Emergency Services. All pledges are due at registration. The fundraisers will be recognized in three categories: community member, emergency worker and business. Donations are tax deductible. The event includes raffle prizes, free coffee, hot chocolate and clam chowder.
