Shelton boys wrestling

The Shelton High School boys wrestling team had a solid week, capturing a league dual meet against Centralia on Jan. 15 at the Shelton Mini-Dome and then earning a second-place finish at the Dave Holter Invitational on Saturday at Kelso.

At the Holter Inviter, the Climbers' Hunter Leth won the 175-pound weight class, and Richie Lingle and Cole Borden were second in the 132 and 138-weight classes, respectively.

William Lacey (3rd, 106), Aiden Dodge (4th, 120), Jace Wolfe (4th, 144), Mark Sanchez (3rd, 215) and Dwayne Nunez-Lopez (4th, 285) also placed to help Shelton finish the meet in second place.

The Climbers host Black Hills at 6 tonight and will honor the teams' seniors prior to the match.

The Shelton High School girls wrestling team was third at the River Ridge Rumble on Saturday in Lacey.

Shelton's EliBeth Cervantes won the 140-pound weight class, while Amaya Carrion (110), Adell Anderson (120) and Aurora Marcy (235) finished second.

Other placers for the Climbers included Sophia Todd (3rd, 130), Cyann Mobley (3rd, 145) and Daisy Oltman (4th, 155).

Shelton hosted Aberdeen in a dual match Wednesday.

Shelton bowling

The Shelton High School bowling wrapped up its regular season last week with a split.

On Jan. 14 at Fairway Lanes in Centralia, Shelton fell to W.F. West, but bounched back on Jan. 16 with a home win over Black Hills on senior day.

The Highclimbers' top seven bowlers will compete in a Jan. 28 tournament at Fairway Lanes and then take part in the 3A District 4 tournament on Jan. 31 at Hazel Dell Bowling Lanes in Vancouver.

Shelton girls basketball

The Shelton High School girls basketball team, ranked 11th in the most recent 3A ratings index, split two games on the road last week.

On Jan. 15, Shelton defeated Centralia 53-48 and on Jan. 17 fell 70-23 at W.F. West, which is ranked No. 3 in the 2A ratings index.

Shelton, which entered this week at 9-4 overall and 3-1 in Evergreen Conference action, hosted Tumwater on Tuesday and travels to Black Hills tonight.

The Highclimber boys hoops team defeated Centralia 48-45 on Jan. 14 at Terry Gregg Court in Shelton.

On Jan. 16, the Climbers fell 69-34 to W.F. West in Shelton and 3-12 overall (1-3 in Evergreen Conference action) entering this week.

Shelton traveled to Tumwater on Wednesday and hosts Black Hills on Friday.

The Shelton High School boys swiming team fell 95-75 in a dual meet with North Thursday on Jan. 14 at the Shelton High School pool.

The Climbers hosted Timberline on Tuesday in their final regular season home meet.

North Mason boys basketball

The Bulldog boys basketball team went 2-1 during three games last week, including a thrilling one-point overtime win over Port Angeles on Friday at home.

North Mason trailed by one, but a foul was called as time expired and the Bulldogs sank both free throws to claim the 68-67 win.

On Jan. 14 at home, North Mason topped Olympic 73-59, and then Saturday the Bulldogs dropped a 75-47 decision at Neah Bay in a nonleague matchup.

North Mason is 7-7 overall (4-4 Olympic League) heading into this week.

North Mason girls basketball

The North Mason girls basketball team went 1-2 in three games last week.

On Jan. 14, the Bulldogs earned a 60-46 road win at Olympic. On Friday, North Mason fell 58-33 at home to Port Angeles and then Saturday, the Bulldogs lost a nonleague game at Neah Bay 55-40.

Mary M. Knight girls basketball

The Owls suffered a pair of league setbacks last week.

On Jan. 15 in Matlock, MMK fell 49-44 to Taholah aond on Friday at Naselle, the Owls dropped a 69-47 decision to the Comets.

MMK (9-5 overall, 2-4 1B Coastal League) faces Willapa Valley and Ocosta this week.

North Mason boys basketball

MMK (0-13, 0-6) dropped two league games last week, falling 55-30 to Taholah on Jan. 15 in Matlock and 60-34 on Friday at Naselle.
