Free Christmas tree recycling extended

Free Christmas tree recycling at the Belfair solid waste drop off, at 1611 NE Sand Hill Road in Belfair, has been extended through Jan. 25 from Tuesday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Mason County Garbage and Recycling curbside service customers can also cut up their trees and place them in their cart as part of their regular pickup, according to a county news release.

The Shelton Transfer Station, at 501 West Eells Hill Road in Shelton, is also providing free tree recycling Monday through Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Trees must be free of tinsel, decorations and flocking and wreaths and garlands are not accepted because these items contain wires and can’t be recycled, the release states.

Chamber luncheon Jan. 22

The North Mason Chamber’s monthly luncheon is 11:30 a.m. Jan. 22 at the HUB Center for Seniors in Belfair.

Featured speakers Mason County Public Works Director Loretta Swanson and Mason County Transportation Improvement Committee Chair William S. Harris will be discussing transportation and maintenance, including the Belfair Bypass, according to a news release.

Guests may provide input about the projects for the presenters to share with the Mason County Commissioners, the release states.

Lunch is $25 for members and $30 for nonmembers and will be catered by Wild & Woodsy Catering. Registration is through the chamber website at northmasonchamber.com.

Twanoh State Park free Monday

Twanoh State Park will be free Monday for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday.

Visitors will not need a Discover Pass to park a vehicle at a Washington state park or on lands managed by the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, according to the Washington State Parks.

Belfair State Park is still closed for emergency maintenance as of Wednesday, Jan. 15.

HUB hosts meditation series

The HUB Center for Seniors in Belfair is hosting Mindfulness Meditation, a 5-week series, starting today at 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

“This series consists of guided instruction in Mindfulness Meditation practices, gentle movement, group dialog and daily home practices. Mindfulness Meditation is helpful for: Stress, chronic pain, anxiety, depression, high blood pressure, sleep disorders, weight management, everyday life challenges and much more.” according to the news release.

Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Class size is limited to 12 people, age 18 and over and registration is available at the HUB front desk, located at 111 NE Old Belfair Hwy, Belfair.

Library Pageturners meet today

North Mason Pageturners group meets today at Belfair’s North Mason Timberland Library, 23081 NE State Route 3, Belfair, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

This month’s book is Red Paint: The Ancestral Autobiography of a Coast Salish Punk by Sasha LaPointe.

Copies are available at the library’s front desk, according to a news release.

Library Friends meet next Tuesday

North Mason Friends of the Library will meet Tuesday at the library’s large meeting room from 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

“Join the North Mason Friends of the Library meeting on the second Tuesday of each month. Get involved by using your talents to support the library and the programs it provides,” according to the groups website.
