Getting metaphysical

The sign on the door states "Park your broom and come on in."

Debuting in late October, Raven's Charm Metaphysical Supplies on Johns Prairie Road offers tarot cards, books on spirituality and healing, oils, candles, fragrances, crystals, incense, sage and more. The store has a healing space, and another for tarot readings. A room behind the counter will be converted for classroom space. The building is the former home of Floyd's Cannabis, which moved next door and is now known as Sasha's Cannabis Co.

Owner Stephanie Davisson grew up in SeaTac in south King County, the seventh of eighth children. She graduated from Tyee High School in 1978. "I was interested in all things weird at that point," she said.

The family home was the scene of lots of poltergeist activity: voices, knocks on the door with no one waiting outside. "I was very interested in ghosts and spirits growing up," Davisson said

Davisson worked as a nanny, receptionist and in retail. For 18 years, she worked for a company that specialized in underground water lines.

In 2000, Davisson joined a paranormal investigation group, eventually becoming vice president of its board of directors. When the group tried to restructure itself into a nonprofit, she moved on and founded a group called Puget Sound Ghostbusters. Health problems prompted her to hand that group over to others.

Davisson then discovered reiki. She studied it and became a master teacher in 2013.

"Reiki doesn't heal - it promotes healing," she said.

She co-owned a metaphysical shop in Burien for five years and closed it just before the COVID pandemic struck in early 2020.

Davisson was the primary caregiver for her mother, who died in July 2022. Her mother left her house to Davisson and her sister. They both decided to retire.

But her sister died in July 2023. Two other sisters live at Lake Limerick and encouraged her to move there.

"When I moved over here, I tried to be retired," she said. "It didn't work for me."

Davisson wanted to locate her shop in downtown Shelton, "but nothing downtown was just right. It was either not enough space or not configured to what I wanted to do."

Used to seeing crows in King County, Davisson was surprised to see so many ravens in Mason County, inspiring the name of her store.

Davisson conducts tarot readings. She also rents out a space for $10 a day to people who want to conduct tarot readings. On Jan. 3, she will host a class on pendulums.

The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
