Allyn church hosts Holiday Bazaar

St. Hugh Episcopal Church hosts its Holiday Bazaar from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 280 E. Wheelwright in Allyn.

The offerings include colorful driftwood, seashell art, seasonal arrangements, soup mixes, handmade items and baked goods.

The silent auction items include a Trader Joe's Italian dinner basket, a Seattle sports basket, an Ali'i Hawaiian ukulele. Coffee, cider and freshly baked scones will be available. Last year's proceeds from the sale, and the church's July Patio & Bake Sale and Danny Vernon show, raised more than $13,000 that was distributed to more than 20 nonprofit organizations, scholarships for graduating seniors and schools in Mason County.

Prevention Summit event targets Latinx people

A Prevention Summit highlights health and prevention strategies in support of the Latinx community from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 14 at Shelton Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

The topics will include substance prevention, resources and how to be involved in community environmental and policy change; opioid overdose and Narcan training; and mental health and substance use addictions information data and resources. Lunch will be provided.

Participating agencies include Mason County Public Health and Human Resources, Mi Chiantia, Family Education & Support Systems, and Prevention Education Partners Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.

Two-day book sale at Shelton library

The Friends of the Shelton Timberland Library host a book sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the library at 710 W. Alder St.

The sale Nov. 3 will be buy one, get one free of equal or lesser value. Only cash will be accepted.

Books of many genres are offered, with a collection of sci-fi-fantasy, children's books, DVDs, music CDs and vintage books for sale.

The nonprofit Friends of the Shelton Library, a group of community volunteers, encourages the use and support of the library. Gently used books can be purchased at any time at the library and book donations are welcome. Local author signs books at library

Shelton author Mary May reads from her book "Sheltered by Hope: My Journey out of Homelessness" and also signs copies from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the Shelton Timberland Library, 710 W. Alder St.
