MACECOM, the county's 911 center, plans to move from the Shelton Civic Center to a Port of Shelton location and is finalizing a lease agreement, according to MACECOM Executive Director Joe Schmit.
The move was also announced at the Oct. 15 Port of Shelton commission meeting.
"We are working on lease negotiations with MACECOM," Port of Shelton Executive Director Wendy Smith announced at the meeting.
"We're just thrilled," she said.
The office building is 5,000 square feet on West Rose Nye Way in the port's Peste Business Park, port officials said.
Smith said the lease would "probably" be for 25 years with a 25-year option.
"A long, long time," she said.
The move will be "quite a process," Smith said, because MACECOM can't just shut down the office.
Schmit said the larger space is needed.
"Relocating MACECOM to the Port of Shelton provides significantly more space, at an affordable cost, allowing for an increase in dispatchers and call takers to meet the growing demands of emergency services. This expansion will enable the center to handle a higher volume of calls, ensuring accurate and more efficient coordination during emergencies," Schmit told the Journal in an email.
"By accommodating more staff, MACECOM will be better equipped to address the increasing complexity of public safety challenges, ultimately enhancing the quality of service provided to the community and first responders," he said.
Schmit also thanked Smith and the port commissioners for their support of the relocation.
MACECOM will give more details about the move after the lease is finalized, Schmit said.
