Carlton “Carl” G. Story, born January 25, 1938 in Shelton, passed away October 6, 2024 at the age of 86, at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. Arrangements are by McComb & Wagner Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Carl was born to Eugene and Mabel Story in Shelton, WA. Carl attended Shelton schools. He went to work at the age of 18 years old at Simpson Timber Company at the Insulated Board Plant (IBP) in May, 1956. There he unloaded 100lb. bags of chemicals that contained asbestos from semi trucks and railroad cars.
In 1964, he transferred to the Central Maintenance Shop (CM Shop) as a millright and then as a lead mechanic. There, he worked on small and big forklifts. In 2000, he retired, just three months shy of 45 years. In his younger years, he worked a second job at Binger’s gas station in the evenings and on weekends.
Carl was a member of the Silver Stars Horse Club where he had a few different horses and rode with Ralph Bariekman, Phil Hardy, Hap Bracey, and the Palmer family. Carl also was a member of the Shelton CB Radio Club, and member of the Shelton Senior Center, also a member of the Gopher Racing Club. Carl had a 1968 Camaro, named “Hey No Passo” that he and Dale Way put together. Carl raced at the Bremerton, Puyallup and Seattle International Raceway (SIR). From 1976 to 1978 Carl is also a member of the Harvest Foursquare Church. Carl and Frankie loved to attend the Kite Festival in Longbeach, WA for over 30 years, and collected a pin each year.
Carl is survived by his wife of 50 years – Frankie Eagle Story, son Greg Story and his wife Becky, sons Jeff Story and Mark Story, daughter Jill Story and wife Kelly Haupt, daughter Katrina Branch and husband Alec Branch, daughter Jenni Evans, six grandchildren, two who have passed, and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Carl’s life will be held Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Senior Center Pavilion, 190 W. Sentry Dr. in Shelton, WA, and is a potluck dinner.
