OysterFest weekend

Championship oyster shucking, country and rock bands, children's activities and a tsunami of wine, beer and food offerings are among the draws at the annual OysterFest event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Port of Shelton's Sanderson Field, one-half mile north of Shelton just west of U.S. Highway 101.

The 33 vendors include civic groups, clubs, churches, Scout troops and lodges. Eighteen wineries offer their wares in the Salish Sea Wine Pavilion, with 19 kinds of beer in the Beer Garden.

The event kicks off with the OysterFest concert from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday. Admission is $5 and patrons must be 21 or older. The bands performing on two stages Saturday and Sunday include the Randy Linder Band, Strike Nine, Big Love Band, The Lady Drinks Whiskey, cello soloist Dave Pierik, Swing Fever Band and The Varmints.

Admission on Saturday is $15 for adults, $10 for kids 7-17, and children younger than 7 free. On Sunday, admission is $15 for adults, and children 17 and younger are free. Active military members on Sunday are $5. Adults can also buy a two-day pass for $25. Pets are not allowed.

Free shuttle service and parking is available at the Shelton Matlock Park & Ride, the Kamilche Transit Center at Little Creek Casino Resort and Olympic College Shelton. The shuttles run from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The shuttles plan to stop at all locations every 20 to 30 minutes.
