Loren Lee Longland

Loren Lee Longland, 79, of Shelton, Washington passed away, Friday, June 21, 2024 at Fir Lane

Health & Rehab Center, after complications from an accidental fall. He was born July 5, 1944, the first born child to Floyd and Lillian (Koch) Longland, in Olympia, Washington.

He attended school at McCleary Elementary only to leave his schooling behind to pursue other

interests. He worked a variety of jobs from millwork at Simpson, painting houses, to

manufacturing doors. But, his passion was making beautiful hand crafted furniture. One of his

first pieces derived from logging and milling the wood off his father’s property to create a one-of-a-kind twin bed for his oldest daughter. He could create and build upon request, pieces such as

roll top desks, end tables, coffee tables, dressers, china hutches, etc. that would be enhanced

with carvings and inlaid wood. He worked out of his basement shop and used his home as a

showroom to sell to clients, eventually selling out of a shop in the Capital Mall. Loren had a variety of interests and talents. He was an avid collector of vintage memorabilia, Nascar and vinyl records, to which he enjoyed listening to while building his furniture. He was a guy who could repair any car, fix any house issues and the family “go to” man for knowledge and lend a helping hand.

He is survived by his first born daughter Lorena (Longland) Robertson and son-in-law Paul

of Elma, WA, Dawn (Longland) Staggs and son-in-law Rick, of Tulsa Oklahoma, Larry Spencer of Shelton, WA, Brenda Longland O’Leary of Centralia, WA. Surviving grandchildren are, Shawn Vandervort and wife Kendra of Spanaway, WA; Trittany (Plews) Heggie and her husband Brian of Rochester, WA; Chase Plews and wife Veronica of Shelton, WA; Kyle Carlson and fiancée Carelynn of Coosbay, OR; Hunter, Ciara and Connor Staggs, of Tulsa Oklahoma. Survived by great-grandchildren, Tryssa Robertson, Jenna Vandervort, Jack Vandervort, Evelyn Robertson, Jason Plews, McKinley Heggie, Josiah Plews, Nora Vandervort, Abigail-lynn Heggie, Zachary Plews and Thomas Plews; nephews Paul Oppelt, Michael Oppelt, Rick Oppelt and niece, Rachel (Oppelt) Crispin, and numerous great nieces and nephews.
