A fire on the western slopes of Mount Jupiter, just over the Jefferson County line, has burned nearly 400 acres as of Monday. The fire has closed Duckabush Road and Mount Jupiter Road near Brinnon. The fire began about 5 p.m. Aug. 14 and Brinnon Fire requested state fire assistance the next day. Water tanker planes and helicopters have pulled water from Lake Cushman and Hood Canal to battle the blaze. Elsewhere in the Olympics, a lightning-caused 2.5-acre blaze began Aug. 18 and is burning near Maiden Peak in the northern part of the range near Port Angeles.
