Music from land and sea at Hoodstock

An eclectic lineup of rock, country and funk bands can be enjoyed from land or sea at the seventh annual Hoodstock Music and Arts Festival staged today through Saturday at the Union Marina and a new venue, Robin Hood Village Resort in Union.

Concertgoers can park at the New Community Church at 951 E. Dalby Road and the Mason County Fire station 6 at 50 E. Seattle St. and catch a shuttle bus to the event.

Historic house in Union hosts picnic

The McReavy House of Hood Canal hosts its annual picnic Sunday afternoon at 10 E. Second St. in Union. Enjoy roasted hot dogs, tours of the historic house and meeting others. Donations will be accepted.

Free movies at Kneeland Park

The City of Shelton’s Movies in the Park series concludes with a screening of “Moana” that begins about 9 p.m. Friday at Kneeland Park in downtown Shelton. Admission is free.

National Nonprofit Day at Shelton YMCA

The Shelton Family YMCA hosts the free community event National Nonprofit Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The event will continue on the third Saturday of each month.

Community organizations will help people find resources. At the Aug. 17 event, Shelton Timberland Library at 11 a.m. offers projects for kids. Mason General Hospital and Peninsula Credit Union will be among the groups.

Bluegrass band at Cushman house

The South Puget Sound bluegrass band Oly Mountain Boys performs at 3 p.m. Sunday at a house concert near Lake Cushman. Admission is a donation of $15-$20. For reservations, call 360-877-5862.

Love INC golf fundraiser

Registration is open for the 13th annual Love INC (In the Name of Christ) charity golf tournament hosted Monday at the Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club in Union, and tickets are also available for the golf ball drop from a helicopter following the tournament.

This is the primary source of financial support for the mission of Love INC, a Shelton-based nonprofit whose 25 partner churches work together connecting people in need to Christ while providing goods and services such as clothing, blankets, furniture, backpacks for kids, diapers and medical equipment.

Participaction in the golf tournament is limited to 40 teams of four, so early registration is recommended. Golfers pay a registration fee of $150 each, which covers green fees and provides tee packs that include a sleeve of three balls and a meal at the end of the tournament.

Teams of up to four have won as much as $600 for a first-place finish. Register by calling 360-462-5683.

To participate in the golf ball drop after the tournament, buy a ticket for $10 that gets your number on a golf ball that is dropped from a helicopter on the golf course’s 18th hole. You will be eligible to win as much as $2,000 for a hole in one, and $150 to $1,000 depending on how close your ball falls to the 18th hole. Tickets are available at 360-462-5683.

Summer movies at Shelton Cinemas

Admission is by donation to summer movies hosted by Shelton Cinemas in downtown Shelton.

The doors open at noon and the movies begin at 12:30 p.m. They are “Trolls Band Together” on Monday and “How to Train Your Dragon” Aug. 26.

Concessions are specially priced, with hot dogs for $1.50, popcorn for $1,50 and soda for $1.50, or all three for $3.50.

Market on the Hill Saturdays in Hoodsport

St. Germain Episcopal Church hosts its Market on the Hill from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 24 and Sept. 14 and 28 at 600 Lake Cushman Road, Hoodsport.
