Sharon L. Huisingh

Sharon L. Huisingh, age 85, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2024 at her home in the care of her family.

Sharon was born to Leland and Kathleen LaRee Sides. She lived and was raised in Alturas, CA attending Modoc County High. Shortly thereafter Sharon moved to Seattle where she met a sailor and the love of her life, Bernie. Once Bernie left the Navy, they moved to his hometown of Shelton, where they raised their family of five children.

As a young mother, Sharon's favorite hobby was bowling. She frequently traveled to tournaments in Portland and Reno with her 'bowling besties' and many a story has been shared about those trips! She also enjoyed spending weekends with her motorcycle racing family, where she ensured that all members were well fed after a long day of racing or touring. She was quite well known for her spaghetti!

Sharon spent several years tending bar at her favorite bowling alley, Shelton Rec., where after several years, she and Bernie purchased the establishment. It was a favorite watering hole for many in the community and was a place for great conversation and fun.

In her spare time, Sharon enjoyed boating and fishing with Bernie. They travelled all around the South Sound, but her favorite spots were Hood Canal and Sekiu. All of this fishing gave ample opportunity for cooking great seafood and Sharon was masterful at just that! She made the best Halibut white chili, and Halibut dip. We cannot touch on cooking without the mention of the best porkchop this writer has ever had, incredibly prepared by Sharon on a hot plate in a motel room in Sekiu. Delicious!

Later in life, Sharon enjoyed frequenting estate and garage sales and holding her own sale events at local community halls where she would spend many an hour visiting with old friends. She loved to travel, especially to Reno and to Las Vegas to attend NASCAR races with family. Most of all she loved visiting with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family meant everything to her.

Sharon suffered a serious heart attack at the age of 55, and had triple by-pass surgery, while this made some changes to her lifestyle; she kept going strong for another thirty years, a full testament to her inner strength and determination. Her heart was broken when Bernie passed of cancer a few days earlier and she passed to join him. The family has lost their 'Anchor' and their 'Captain' within mere days and they welcome your best wishes and prayers as they try to navigate on their own.

Sharon is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years Bernie Huisingh, her father Leland Sides, mother Kathleen LaRee Sides, and sister, Marsha Quigley. She leaves behind her children Danette (Ron) Craig, Jeri Borneman, Mike (Diane) Huisingh, Lisa (Mark) Neely, and Janet Huisingh. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and her brother Gary Sides

A celebration of life for family and close friends will be held at a date yet to be determined.
