Explore the Fjord summer camps begin Friday in Belfair

Explore the Fjord Summer Camp for youths ages 12 - 16, sponsored by the Hood Canal Salmon Enhancement Group, starts Friday.

Activities include hiking, learning about shellfish, exploring tide pools and kayaking, according to HCSEG.

Sessions are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fridays from July 12 to Aug. 16 for a $10 donation per camp session and financial assistance is available.

Kids can register for the whole camp or just a single session.

Campers meet at the Salmon Center, 600 Roessel Road, Belfair, where each session starts and ends. Transportation is provided.

Campers are responsible for bringing their own lunch, snack and water bottle.

"HCSEG also has a diverse range of partners that are experts in their field, including biologists from the Pacific Shellfish Institute and Great Peninsula Conservancy, to provide engaging outdoor experiences," according to a news release.

■ Week 1: Hike up Green Mountain and crafting.

■ Week 2: Learn about Union River Estuary.

■ Week 3: Visit Misery Point Preserve to view wildlife.

■ Week 4: Explore Twanoh State Park.

■ Week 5: Kayak in Brinnon.

■ Week 6: Visit Bremerton Bug Museum.
