City receives zero library project bids

No contractors offered bids to repair the Shelton Timberland Library deck.

The Shelton City Council was scheduled to give preliminary approval at its July 2 meeting to awarding a contract to install a new waterproof membrane and steel safety railing to meet building and safety codes and "provide a more aesthetically pleasing public space."

But City Manager Mark Ziegler announced that the city hadn't received any bids yet for the project. The invitation to submit a bid was distributed June 13, with a response deadline of July 2.

Ziegler said the city would "regroup" and he would seek legal counsel on the measure. "We hope to bring that to you in the future," he said.

The city has budgeted $135,800 for the project, with $20,900 coming from the city's general fund, $24,000 from the library endowment fund, $23,000 from Timberland Regional Library and $67,900 from a state Department of Commerce grant.

The city report states areas of sheeting and structures are affected by rot due to water intrusion and will be removed and repaired.
