Scholarships from MGH Foundation Auxiliary Guild

The Mason General Hospital Foundation Auxiliary Guild awarded $20,000 in scholarships to 11 people pursuing higher education in medical and computer science fields.

Five graduating Shelton High School students received $2,500 scholarships.

Lily Bennett will attend Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho. She will work to earn a bachelor's degree in radiographic science to become an X-ray and MRI technician. She graduates Shelton High School with the highest honors.

Carson Bursch graduated from Shelton High School with high honors and plans to attend Eastern Oregon University in La Grande to pursue a degree in human health and performance, with an emphasis on exercise science. He wants to earn a doctorate in physical therapy.

Mariliz Luna plans to continue her studies at Saint Martin's University in Lacey. She graduated from Shelton High School with high honors and the seal of biliteracy.

Lindsey Ozuna Uriostegui will continue her education at Gonzaga University in Spokane. She is interested in health care administration. She graduated from Shelton High School with the highest honors and the seal of biliteracy.

Alexandra Ramirez-Villa will work on earning a bachelor's of science degree in nursing at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. She graduated Shelton High School with highest honors and the seal of biliteracy.

Five Mason Health employees each received a $1,000 scholarship and one Shelton High School alumni received $2,500.

Linda Cook, medical assistant-certified, will further her education in nursing at Clover Park Technical College. Morgan Elissalde, laboratory assistant, will pursue a bachelor's in science degree in nursing at Olympic College and complete the ASCAP Medical Lab Technician certification.

Iris Hilburger, volunteer coordinator, will enroll this fall at South Puget Sound Community College to complete prerequisites to start a nursing program in 2025. Zoe Rondello Reim, radiology tech aide, will study to become a surgical technician at Clover Park Technical College. Julia Solano Martinez, patient access specialist, is pursuing a nursing degree. She received this award in 2022 and 2023.

Shelton High School alumnus Evan Marshall is studying computer science at the University of Washington.

Free summer meals for kids 18 and younger

The Shelton School District is providing free meals to anyone age 18 or younger at three of its schools Mondays through Thursdays June 24 through July 25, except for July 4.

The meals must be eaten at the sites. Shelton High School at 3737 N. Shelton Springs Road offers breakfast from 7:30 to 8 a.m. and lunches from 11:30 a.m. to noon Mondays through Thursdays. Mountain View Elementary School at 534 K St. provides breakfast from 8 to 8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11:55 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. CHOICE Middle and High School at 807 West Pine St. in downtown Shelton offers a morning snack from 8:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Four Shelton High grads get OURCU scholarships

Our Community Credit Union awarded $50,000 in scholarships to high school seniors from Shelton, Elma, Capital, Montesano and Vashon Island.

All the recipients are required to be OURCU members and attend a college or vocational/technical school this fall. Each receives a $5,000 scholarship.

Kylie Brown, Angie Hernandez, Leah Ozuna Montano and Kara Salyers are the recipients from Shelton High School.

Scholarships for health workers to become RNs

The 40 et 8 Veterans Club in Shelton is accepting applications for scholarships for people who currently working in the nursing field and want to expand their education to become a registered nurse. For information, email [email protected].
