Shelton has a new deputy mayor

Sharon Schirman is the new deputy mayor of Shelton.

The Shelton City Council voted to award her the office at its regular meeting May 21. Schirman is the majority owner of ISW PNW in downtown Shelton and was elected to the council in 2022.

Schirman replaces Joe Schmit as deputy mayor. Schmit resigned in April.

In the election of the deputy mayor, council member George Blush nominated Schirman and Tom Gilmore nominated Miguel Gutierrez. Schirman won with four votes.

New Civic Center gallery display

The Shelton City Council approved a new installation at the Shelton Civic Center Rotating Gallery at its regular meeting May 21.

Five artists submitted works for the gallery. The Shelton Arts Commission examined and approved all five.

The art will be installed Tuesday and remain on display through Aug. 30, said Jordanne Krumpols, the city's parks & recreation supervisor. She pointed out all five artists have had works on display in the gallery.

The exhibit will showcase photography by Deborah Chava Singer, Elizabeth Jacobsen and Tom Rehder; acrylic on canvas works by Heather Rosborough; and watercolor and oil paintings by Joanne Dour.

Empty Bowls feeds people in need

The Shelton Arts Commission's 19th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser raised $2,183 for The Saints' Pantry Food Bank in downtown Shelton.

The three-day effort featured people creating clay bowls, glazing them and then donating $10 for a bowl filled with soup made by a local restaurant. The participating restaurants and catering services included C.J.'s Corner, Kern's Kitchen, Olympic Bakery & Deli, Taylor Shellfish, Wilde Irish Pub and Wild & Woodsy Catering.
