Six competing for two commission seats

Six men are competing for two seats on the three-member Mason County Commission in the Aug. 6 primary election, with the two top vote- getters in each race facing off in the November general election.

Mason County Commissioner Randy Neatherlin last week filed to run for another term representing District 1. Neatherlin, who is running as an independent, faces two Republican challengers, William Harris and Ted Jackson.

Kevin Shutty declined to seek another term representing District 2. Seeking the seat are Republicans Richard Beckman and Pat Tarzwell, and Tom Beben, an independent.

State Reps. Dan Griffey and Travis Couture, both Allyn Republicans, are seeking new two-year terms representing the 35th District in the state House. Griffey is running unopposed and Couture is facing Democrat James DeHart of Shelton and Shelton Mayor Eric Onisko, a Republican.

State Sen. Drew MacEwen, R-Shelton, is running to replace Democrat Derek Kilmer representing the 6th District in Congress. In the August primary, he’s facing fellow Republican Janis Clark of Federal Way; J. Graham Ralston of Port Angeles, an independent; and Democrats Emily Randall of Port Orchard and Hilary Franz of Tacoma.

Thirty people have filed to run for governor to replace Jay Inslee, who is not seeking a fourth term and is the longest current serving governor in the country.
