Woodrow Anthony Apple

Woodrow Anthony Apple was born March 8th, 1945, on Pine Ridge, SD tribal lands and passed away on February 3rd, 2024, surrounded by family and friends in Shelton, Washington. His service will be held privately with family on March 9th, 2024.

Woodrow, known to loved ones as Woody or Sonny, served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966, as well as serving his country overseas in the Vietnam War. His primary occupations included road construction and roofing, and he spent part of his career working on the historical Seattle King Dome. His hobbies included scuba diving, snorkeling in his younger years, and spending time with his beloved animals in his later years. Woodrow was a proud, strong-willed, kind, and, most importantly, hard-working man.

He is survived by his beloved older sister Barbara Hoyt, two younger sisters, Lorraine Apple and Gayla Apple, his first wife, Camille DeWitt, and his four children, Patrick Apple, Mari Apple-Albright, Michael Apple, and Travis Apple. Woodrow also had many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jesse Galigo, and father, Woodrow Wilson Apple, his sister, Linda Apple Huber, and his partner, Sandy Weiss. Woodrow spent many years living with Heidi Apple, Patrick Apple and their four children. He spent the last few years of his life with his grandson Jason Apple and his dear friends Robert and Carolyn Studer.

The Apple family would like to give special thanks to the Lakota Nation for helping us carry Woodrow from this life onto the next. We would also like to thank Mason General Hospital for helping Woodrow through the medical challenges he faced toward the end of his time on earth. Woodrow Anthony Apple was truly one of a kind, and we will always carry the memory of his presence with us.
