Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886
After a two-year absence, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, or WIC, will be providing services to the community through a three-way partnership with Mason County Public Health, Mason General Hospital and the Shelton Family YMCA, Mason County Public Health Director Dave Windom said.
A ribbon-cutting was Feb. 23 at the Shelton Family YMCA, where the clinic will operate.
The WIC program provides supplemental food, health care referrals and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age 5 who are found to be at nutritional risk, according to the federal website.
The clinic will initially be open Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting March 1 at 8 a.m., Mason Public Health Community Health Manager Melissa Casey told the Journal.
"As caseload grows, we will look at increasing days in the future," she said.
Community member can call 360-427-9670, ext. 288, or email [email protected] to see whether they quality for WIC and set up an appointment.
