Port of Allyn commissioners were expected to vote on a proposed change to the gazebo rental policy at the Jan. 10 meeting that happened after the Herald went to press.
Patty Noel, who was appointed interim executive assistant at the Jan. 1 meeting, proposed changing the current rental schedule that's set at 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., to a minimum four-hour rental with an additional hourly charge after four hours.
"Right now, the gazebo is only able to be rented twice in one day," Noel said. The time change "wouldn't eat up the whole day," she said.
A half day rental is $750 and a whole day is $1,500, according to the port's website.
The gazebo is 204 feet around with a dance floor in the middle and overlooks the North Bay, the website says. There are no restrictions on the number of guests and included with the fee are keys to the restroom facilities, power for the gazebo and keys for the dumpster so trash doesn't have to be hauled away, according to the website.
Noel said a local business asked to rent the gazebo from noon to 4 p.m., but the request didn't fall within the two current schedule times.
"I think that we would get more usage," Noel said about the proposed change.
"I absolutely agree," Interim Executive Director Travis Merrill said.
Commissioner Judy Scott also liked the proposal.
"I think the four-hour minimum is appropriate and simple," she said.
The commissioners agreed to table the matter and bring it up for a possible vote Jan. 10.
