Actors wanted for Harstine Island play
The Harstine Island Theatre Club hosts auditions for the play “Crossing Delancey” by Susan Sandler at 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Harstine Island
Community Hall, 3371 E. Harstine Island Road N. The show will be staged the first two weekends in April.
“Crossing Delaney” is the story of Isabel, a young woman who lives alone and works in a book shop. When she is not pining after a handsome author, she is visiting her grandmother, Bubbie, on Manhattan’s East Side. This irascible granny and her friend the matchmaker have found a “good catch” for Isabel, a gentle, unpretentious pickle vendor named Sam.
You do not have to be the age of the character, just be able to play it, the group states.
The role of Bubbie is a feisty, sharp-witted woman who immigrated to the United States as a young girl and is 70 years or older. Izzie is a bookish dreamer in her late 20s to early 30s.
Hannah the matchmaker is a wheeler-dealer who loves to eat and is in her 50s. Tyler is a well-known author, charming and self-involved and in his late 30s. Sam is a pickle man and a poet, gentle and intuitive, and in his early 30s.
