Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886
Bruce Cowan was born January 6, 1944, in Shelton, WA. He lived all his life in the Shelton-Union area and attended Shelton High School graduating in 1962. Bruce was an avid hunter and trap shooter, but most of all he loved his black labs, especially his dog Rock.
Bruce served in the United States Air Force from 1964-1969. He was a disabled Vietnam Veteran. Bruce worked several jobs including the Union Garage, and as a welder supervisor at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He also had a small welding and repair business in Union. He spent numerous hours working on the New Community Church of Union's property and helping with many fund raisers, especially the salmon dinners.
Bruce enjoyed his old car: 1963 ½ Ford Galaxie 500. He had a lot of fun restoring it and taking it to car shows. He had many stories to tell about his car, and his dog Rock, which he was always willing to share.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Karen, daughter, Jennifer (husband Ronnie), and son, Jerry. His five grandchildren were his heart's delight: Megan and Sarah Riggs, Natalie and Jake Mathews, and Josh Riggs. Sisters: Connie Adams, and Bette Morton. Brothers: Scott Metzler, Brad Cowan and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Dorothy and Eddie Metzler, Norman and Merle Cowan. Bruce's Sister: Sally Stacy, and brothers-in-law: Don Stacy and Gordon Adams.
A Memorial Service will be held at Shelton Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
