Area runners headed to state cross country meets

Shelton senior Lily Bennett finished in fourth place at the District IV 2A girls cross country championship race Oct. 26 at Lewis River Golf Course in Woodland.

Bennett finished the race in 19 minutes, 58 seconds to qualify for the state 2A girls cross country championship race at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.

Shelton first-year student Alisha Carpenter also qualified for the state race with a 11th place finish in 20:35. Sophomore Madison Lohmeyer finished 29th in 21:55.

In the boys race, Shelton senior Carson Bursch placed seventh in 16:54 to earn a spot in the state race.

Senior Richard Beckman placed 58th in 18:46.

The state 2A boys race is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.

North Mason

North Mason junior Jackson Bergdahl was the only Bulldog to qualify for state with a 24th-place finish at the Westside Classic District cross country championship race at Chambers Bay in University Place.

Bergdahl finished the race in 17 minutes, 22 seconds.

North Mason senior Paige Kelly finished 77th in the girls race as the highest finishing Bulldog runner.

Bergdahl will compete at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in the state 2A boys cross country race at Sun Willows Golf Course.
