Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886
Gwen Ila Long was born April 26, 1931, and passed away peacefully on August 30, 2023, with her daughter Linda Fisher by her side.
She was born to Merton and Ila (Smith) Munn in Mitchell, South Dakota. She married the love of her life Leonard Long and they had a life full of adventures, including raising four children, moving 18 times, and finishing her teaching degree along the way. She taught at Evergreen Elementary School in Shelton, Washington, taught preschoolers in Las Vegas and eventually went to American Samoa to finish out her teaching career. Nana (as we all affectionately called her) always loved living by the water, she bought their house on Arcadia Point without Leonard seeing it first. Once they retired, she decided they needed a bigger vast of water, so they moved to Ocean Park. As they grew older, they realized that they needed to be closer to their doctors and had a RV park model moved onto their granddaughter's property in Shelton. Nana continued to live there until her care became too much and was moved to Hearts of Warmth Adult Family Home in Lacey where they took amazing care of her.
Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Long, son Doug Long and grandson Brian Fisher. She is survived by her daughters Teri (Mike) Byrd, Linda Fisher, Debbie (Bob) Ploof and her sister Evie, along with eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two nieces. She was a very special lady and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
There will be no services, per her request.
