Football season set for September

Fall can't come soon enough for Mason County football teams, with the season set to begin Sept. 1 with the Mason County Cup.

Shelton will travel to Belfair this year to take on North Mason for the Battle of the Axe. Shelton won last year's game 39-18. The Highclimbers host Bremerton in the home opener Sept. 8 before its first Evergreen Conference game against W.F. West on Sept. 8. The other nonleague game on Shelton's schedule is Sept. 29 when Shelton travels to Montesano to take on the Bulldogs. The Highclimbers host Centralia and Black Hills in league games and travel to take on Rochester, Tumwater and Aberdeen.

North Mason travels to Silverdale in Week 2 to face Klahowya in a nonleague game before playing opening Olympic League games at home Sept. 15 against Kingston. The Bulldogs will also host Bremerton, Bainbridge and Olympic in league games and hits the road to face North Kitsap, Sequim and Port Angeles.

Mary M. Knight opens the season Sept. 9 against Lake Quinault in a nonleague game in Amanda Park. The rest of the Owls schedule is league games, starting with the home opener Sept. 16 against Clallam Bay in Matlock.
