Six county track athletes in top 10
Shelton senior Jacob Miller ended his prep running career with a fourth-place finish Saturday in the 3,200-meter race in the state 2A track and field championships at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma.
Miller finished the race in 9 minutes, 19.57 seconds. He also finished sixth in the 1,600-meter race in 4:18.31. Shelton senior Jaydon Blackburn placed 17th in the 3,200-meter race in 9:49.26.
Shelton junior Anthony Sanchelli finished seventh in the discus with a throw of 143 feet, 3 inches.
In girls results, Shelton senior Olivia Henry finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 108 feet, 3 inches. Shelton junior Lily Bennett finished 10th in the 3,200-
meter race in 11:51.25 and junior Maryjane Hageman earned 14th place in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.75 seconds. Junior Moa Skold finished 15th in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 6 inches.
North Mason senior Kezlie Thygesen was the highest finishing Bulldog, placing sixth in the 3,200-meter race in 11 minutes, 30.45 seconds. Thygesen also finished 11th in the 1,600-meter race in 5:22.53. Sophomore Adrianna Tupolo finished eighth in the discus with a toss of 104 feet, 10 inches.
Bulldog junior Avery Ballein finished 15th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 5.25 inches.
Mary M. Knight freshman Logan Green finished 10th in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches.
Boys golf
Shelton senior Holmes Waltermire finished in 16th place at the state 2A boys golf tournament May 23 and 24 at Liberty Lake Golf Course.
Waltermire carded a 76 (6-over) in the first round to make the cut for the second round and shot a 77 (7-over) in the second round for a 153 (13-over).
Lynden's Logan Medcalf won the tournament with a two-round score of 141 (1-over) and Burlington-Edison won the team title.
Girls golf
North Mason freshman Mari Morris earned 38th place at the state 2A girls golf tournament May 23 and 24 at MeadowWood Golf Course in Liberty Lake.
Morris shot a 92 (20-over) in the first round to make the cut for the second round, carding a 99 (27-over) for a two-round total of 191 (47-over).
Cedarcrest's Charlotte Giffin won the tournament with a two-day total of 138 and Sehome won the team title.
Boys tennis
Shelton's Jayden Lovingfoss and Wyatt Wagner were unable to medal at the state 2A boys tennis tournament Friday and Saturday at Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle.
Wagner and Lovingfoss lost to a Fife opponent in the first round on Friday but bounced back with a win in the next match against another Fife opponent in the afternoon match to stay alive. The duo returned to the court Saturday and lost to a Pullman opponent to end their season.
