Jane F. Schroeder passed away on May 23, 2023, in Marysville, WA. She previously lived in Allyn, Anacortes and Federal Way. She was 94 years old.
Jane was born in 1929, during the Depression to Alton and Frances Haskell. She grew up in Watervliet, NY, summers were spent in New Brunswick Canada, where her mother grew up. Jane had 15 first cousins, so summers were active with family and spending time at Granny's and Grandpa's. Her Father Alton grew up in Boston. Jane's Grandfather was a Sea Captain on the New England coast, sailing one of the largest sixth mast sailing vessels of the time. Jane graduated High School in Watervliet, NY.
While visiting her cousin in Madison, Maine she met a handsome young naval officer who was visiting his Mother after World War, II. She would end up marrying the naval officer in October 1948, and they moved to Malone, NY, where Jane attended college. She graduated from Adirondack School of Commerce in 1951, with an Accounting Degree.
Jane and Paul eventually moved down to Lathem, NY to be closer to her Mother, who was ill. She took a job with the state of New York working in the Historical Library department. Her Mother passed away in 1953, and Jane and Paul welcomed their first of three daughters, Nanci Jane in 1954, Jeannie Frances followed in 1957, and the youngest Susan Marie in 1960. By 1959, the family was transferred to New Jersey. Paul's company, Diamond Power was based in Philadelphia. In 1965, Paul accepted a promotion in the company, and we packed up and moved across county to Washington State. Jane and Paul bought a beautiful home to raise their family in Federal Way. There they raised their girls until Paul passed away in 1979. Eventfully Jane would build a home in Anacortes and live there, living closer to her eldest daughter Nanci. As she got older she decided to move down to Allyn and bought a condo. She now lived closer to her middle daughter Jeannie. She met many people living in Mason County and Anacortes and enjoyed an active social life. Eventfully she needed more assistance, and her daughters moved her to an assistant living facility in Marysville.
Jane was a strong and independent woman for her time. She enjoyed her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul, her daughter Susan, her brother Bill, 15 first-cousins, and granddaughter Grace.
Her loving memory lives on with her family, daughters, Nanci (Ron) Denney, Jean (Tom) Farmer, grandchildren, Bryan (Aubrey), Matt (Kari), Allen (Jen), Caren (Boni), and four great-grandchildren, Alexander, Lucas, Ana and Hadyn, nephew, Mark (Katrina).
