Seven candidates have applied for three positions on the Shelton City Council on the Aug. 2 primary ballot.
Friday was the deadline to register for the election, with 85 people applying for 63 offices. The primary will whittle the candidates down to two finalists per race for the Nov. 7 general election.
Three of the seven positions on the Shelton City Council are up for grabs. The winners have four-year terms.
Mary Eagleson, Tristen Smith and George Blush will compete to replace James Boad for council position 1. Boad, the owner of Wilde Irish Pub in downtown Shelton, decided not to seek a second term on the council.
Melissa Stearns is seeking to replace Kathy McDowell for position 2. McDowell is the longest serving member, having been part of the three-person Shelton City Commission before a vote by residents expanded it to a seven-member council.
Mark Frazier and Tom Gilmore are competing for position 5. Current member Deidre Peterson, also the executive director of the Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce, is not seeking a new term.
Four positions are open on the five-member Shelton School Board. Two candidates have applied for three of the positions.
Current Board Chair Keri Davidson, who has served since 2015, will face Tommy Stearns for a four-year term in director position 2.
Current board member Karla Knudsen-Johnston will face Brandi L. Housh for a four-year term for director District 1.
Current board member Lauren Gilmore, who was selected this year to fill an unexpired term, is running against Andrew Wilford to represent District 2 for four years.
Becky Cronquist has filed to fill an unexpired 2-year term in director position 1.
Sandy Tarzwell, who has been on the board the longest, did not seek another term. She joined the board in 2014.
The three open positions on the Southside School District Board each have one candidate: Heather Stoffle, Laurie Cox and Bri Rasmussen.
On the Hood Canal School Board, Kimberly Miller, Paul Thompson and Annie Robbins are the sole candidates for three seats, and Rebecca Roadman and Jimmy Harris will compete for an unexpired two-year term in position 4.
Wes Martin, Edrie Price and Les Okonek are running unopposed for seats on the Grapeview School Board. Likewise, Alexander Ushman, Cynthia Brehmeyer and Jake Goldy are the sole candidates for their seats on the Mary M. Knight School Board. On the North Mason School Board, Erik Youngberg and Nicole Gonzalez Timmons are running unopposed.
But there’s competition for two of the four seats on the Pioneer School Board. Rebecca Bechtolt is the sole candidate for position 1 and Rick Lee for position 2. Position 3 pairs Jim Christie and Robert Clark, and Nicholas Stone and Ellory Rowe square off for position 4.
