Shelton girls win powerlifting title

The Shelton High Scholl girls powerlifting team won its fifth state powerlifting championship May 6 at the Mini-Dome in Shelton.

Madison Gill at 181 pounds, Neveah Haskins at 198 pounds and Amanda Cruz Santos each won the state championship in their respective weight classes. Raquel Ruiz at 165 pounds, Aurora Marcy at 198 pounds and Brooke Sheetz in the unlimited class each finished second. Judy Gaze at 220 pounds and Alexandra Cheatham at 123 pounds finished third. Mylee Cuzick finished fifth at 123 pounds.

The Shelton boys finished fourth at state, including Jonny Morales at 114 pounds, Carter Whitney at 181 pounds, Rory Ball at 220 pounds and Junior Martinez in the unlimited class earned second place. Bryson Rooks at 123 pounds and Noah Wilbur at 148 pounds placed fourth and Scott Jordan at 132 pounds took fifth place.

This was the ninth state title for Shelton coach Joshua Munro, who said both team's performed well and it was a good time to host state for the fourth time.

"We are losing a really awesome class of senior girls that will be very difficult to replace," Munro said.
