Carl William Mease

Carl William Mease, 75 of Union, WA, died instantly March 19, 2023, from a motor scooter accident in Vietnam.

He began life on March 21, 1947, in Eldorado, Illinois, to Rev Frank R. and Almeda Bicksler Mease. At five years of age the family moved to Vail, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1965. He served in the Marine Corp during the Vietnam War from 1965-1969. On returning, he drifted - searching for answers to the meaning of life. He was influenced by the Jesus people he encountered and the Friends (Quaker) church that welcomed him. In 1970 he died to his old self and began a new life fully surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus Christ. From that decision, flowed a bold passion and mission-minded heart to share his new found faith.

He married Lynette McKinney May, 25, 1974 and graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas in 1975 with a degree in Sociology. He loved his job working for Youth for Christ as a chaplain in the juvenile detention center for several years. With a goal of living in a Muslim country as a missionary, he acquired a Master's degree in Education from Kansas University in 1979, followed by teaching English in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, for three years. Coming back to the states, he attended Youth with a Mission Schools in Tacoma, WA. He found his life work with the Washington State Dept. of Social and Health Services as a CPS social worker. In 1990 he moved his growing family to the Shelton area to embrace his dreams of becoming more self-sufficient and hobby farming. He retired from his profession with WA State in 2019, after 35 years.

Starting in 2015, Carl made five mission trips back to the Vietnamese people whom he had learned to love, delivering God's Word. He ultimately gave his life serving in action, doing what he loved, enlisted as a soldier in God's army that sheds no blood.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Lynette, of almost 49 years, Union, WA and a daughter and six sons. Brothers: Larry Mease (Ana), Albuquerque, New Mexico, Ronald Mease (Mehri), West Palm Beach, FL. Sister, Shirley Deisch (Tony), West Palm Beach, FL.

He was greatly blessed with 18 grandchildren, four great grandchildren and six nieces.

A Celebration of Life will be held April 15, 2023, at Hood Canal Community Church in Hoodsport, WA at 2:00 p.m.
