Coast Guard rescues people in rowboat

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people who were unable to maneuver their rowboat due to weather in Hood Canal on Sunday.

According to a news release, a report was received at 6:18 p.m. of two people in a rowboat in Hood Canal struggling to maneuver the boat for more than two hours due to strong currents and wind. It prompted the launch of a rescue boat from Seattle and a helicopter from Port Angeles.

The helicopter arrived at 7:45 p.m. A rescue swimmer hoisted both people into the helicopter before transporting both to family members at Bremerton National Airport in stable condition.

Benefit Sunday for shooting victim

A benefit show for Elijah Gossett is scheduled for Sunday at El Sarape and Wilde Irish Pub in downtown Shelton.

According to a Facebook event page, Gossett was shot recently and is hospitalized.

According to the event page, music will begin at El Sarape at noon with a silent auction from 4 to 5 p.m., and the benefit will move to Wilde Irish Pub at 6 p.m. with a prayer and music until 10:30 p.m. with a closing prayer.

“We hope this night is filled with music amongst friends where we create a night of hope & healing,” the event page reads. “Also we will help raise money towards Elijah’s looming medical costs. There will be a silent auction and donation jars. Our dearest friend needs our strength & support. All funds raised will be handled & secured by the owners of Wilde Irish Pub. Shooting Sunday morning in Shelton

Central Mason Fire & EMS responded to a shooting at 3:30 a.m. Sunday in the area of Summit Drive.

According to a news release, Shelton Police found a male located outside with multiple gunshot wounds and rendered first aid and assisted with bleeding control prior to CMFE arriving on scene. The man had life-threatening injuries and was stabilized before being transported by helicopter from Mason General to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

The Journal confirmed Chantel D. Peterson, 29, of Shelton, was arrested for the shooting and had a preliminary appearance in Mason County Superior Court on Monday. She was released after paying $5,000 bail.

The Journal contacted Harborview Medical Center for an update on the victim’s status, but did not receive a response before the Journal’s press time.
