Peach wins subregional title, 9 Highclimbers advance

11 girls wrestlers move on to regionals

The Shelton High School boys wrestling team finished third at the subregional wrestling tournament Feb. 4 at Black Hills High School in Tumwater.

The only Highclimber earning a league title was Logan Peach at 132 pounds. Peach won the championship match by a 6-3 decision against Black Hills’ Khristian Brant.

Shelton’s Ty Fleshman at 120 pounds, Cole Borden at 126 pounds, Mario Boxley at 170 pounds and Daniel Tausa at 285 pounds each earned second place in their respective tournaments.

Richard Lingle at 113 pounds, Phenix Oleachea at 145 pounds and Jaxon Wolfe at 182 pounds each finished third in their respective weight classes at the tournament.

Caleb Brennan at 145 pounds finished fourth and earned a spot in the regional tournament.

The nine Shelton boys will compete at the regional wrestling tournament Saturday at Aberdeen High School, trying to earn a spot in the Mat Classic Feb. 17 and 18 at the Tacoma Dome.

North Mason boys third

North Mason took third place at the Olympic League championship wrestling tournament Feb. 4 in Bremerton.

Pedro Salvador at 145 pounds and Jake Mathews at 152 pounds won their tournaments. Salvador won the first two matches by pin before a 6-1 win by decision in the championship match against Port Angeles’ Ethan Abrams. Mathews won his first match by pin, his second match by technical fall before winning the championships match in a 10-3 decision against Bremerton’s Brennan Galloway.

North Mason’s Blake Evans at 126 pounds, Sean Ferber at 132 pounds and Ethan Fore at 220 pounds each finished second in their respective tournaments. Xavier Powell at 106 pounds, Charles Broughton at 138 pounds, Caden Atencio at 170 pounds and Chance Corwin at 195 pounds each finished fourth in their respective tournaments and earned a spot in the regional tournament. Keegan Bonnell finished fifth at 160 pounds and is an alternate to regionals.

North Mason is hosting the regional tournament at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

North Mason girls sixth

The North Mason girls finished sixth at the subregional wrestling tournament Feb. 4 at White River High School in Buckley.

Sadie Evans won the 155-pound tournament. Evans won her first match by pin, the semifinals by a 14-12 decision before earning a 16-12 win by decision against East Jefferson’s Melody Douglas to claim the title.

North Mason’s Evelyn Talbot at 110 pounds and Sarah Flowers at 170 pounds each finished fourth. Sydney Amick finished fifth for the Bulldogs at 155 pounds.

The Bulldogs will travel to Sedro-Woolley on Saturday for the regional wrestling tournament.

Shelton girls advance 5

The Shelton girls wrestling team had five wrestlers advance to the regional wrestling tournament after competing at subregionals Feb. 4 in Hoquiam.

Shelton sophomore EliBeth Cervantes won the 145-pound tournament, and sophomore Baylei Doren placed second in the 140-pound tournament. Junior Joy Gattinger placed third in the 155-pound tournament and Angela Anderson took third place in the 190-pound tournament. Sophomore Aurora Marcy earned fourth place in the 190-pound tournament.

Kyli Ragsdale at 145 pounds and Chrystal Nielsen at 140 pounds each finished fifth and are an alternate to regionals.

Shelton hosts the girls regional tournament in the Mini-Dome Saturday.
