Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886
On January 6, 2023 Dana Joleene Dederick passed away peacefully after a long battle with endometrial cancer. She was 63 years young.
Dana's pride and joy was her daughter, Melissa Dederick. Their unconditional love and enjoyment of each other was beautiful and brought joy to all around them. Melissa moved back to Olympia in 2021 to be near Dana and help her during her illness. No one could have been more loving or devoted to Dana's care. In 2022 Dana retired from her 35-year career with Olympia Federal Savings. Her co-workers recall her sense of fun during team building and daily events, as an organizer of Big Brothers Big Sisters bowling tournament fundraisers, and her generous spirit as a friend, resource and confidant.
Dana was a consummate trivia aficionado, creative painter of rocks, player of board games and family history memory bank. Her love of music created a massive collection that might become the family's sound track. Last summer Dana attended her Federal Way High School Class of 1977 reunion and reconnected with friends. In addition to her support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Dana volunteered with the Special Olympics of Olympia and was a Girl Scout leader when she and Melissa lived in Shelton, WA.
Dana's parents were Donald and Joan Dederick of Shelton. She lives in the hearts of her sisters: Linda (Scott) Gettman, Sherry (Joel) Hellenkamp, Janelle (Curtis) Roberts, Cindy (Jeff) Dreher, Mindy (Brian) Schimpf; and her extended family and friends throughout Washington, Oregon and Arizona. We already miss her smile.
The celebration of Dana's life will be Saturday, February 11, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Heritage Room, 604 Water Street SW, Olympia, WA 98501.
