Dedicated to the citizens of Mason County, Washington since 1886

Floyd Eugene Wiseman

Floyd Eugene Wiseman passed away at his beloved Lost Lake home on January 6, 2023. He was born in Hill City, Kansas on November 12, 1928, to Paul and Lottie Wiseman.

Floyd's family moved to Washington in the early 1940's. First to the Olympia area and then settled in Anacortes in 1944. Floyd graduated from Anacortes High School in 1947. He went on to Washington State College.

Floyd met his wife, Dorothy Keith, while attending Anacortes High School. They married May 21, 1949. Floyd and Dot went on to have five children, all girls.

Throughout Floyd's working life of running plywood mills the family moved many times to several places in Washington and Oregon. Floyd's career also took the family to Honduras, Central America, Colombia and Brazil, South America.

In 1966 the family bought a small cabin on Lost Lake. Many wonderful weekends and summers were spent at the cabin with family and friends. While not a great swimmer, with the assistance of strategically placed life belts, Floyd was a terrific floater! In 1979 the cabin was torn down. Floyd and Dot designed and built their permanent residence that had enough room for all of their daughters and their families. They went on to design and build two more homes at Lost Lake for two of their daughters.

Floyd had a love of travel, woodworking, music, flying and talking to people (especially strangers). He was an accomplished musician that sang, played harmonica, accordion and organ. He earned his private pilot license and flew whenever he could. At the age of 86, Floyd parachuted for the first time. His second jump was shortly before his 91st birthday.

Floyd is known as Poppy to his family and loved ones. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Dot Wiseman, his five daughters, Wendy Baier and Kerry (Sid) Matsumoto of Kona, Hawaii, Kim McElliott and Paige (Loren) Hansen of Shelton and Heidi Hansen of Lacey. Poppy had seven grandchildren: Peter Questi, Jason Baier, Kendall McElliott, Caitlin (Mani Augustine) Hansen, Katie (Nathan) Bosseler, Tyler Hansen and Morgan Hansen and three great-grandchildren.

There is no memorial service planned at this time.
