Shelton girls basketball

Shelton earned its second-straight win with a 57-29 nonleague victory against River Ridge on Dec. 23 in Lacey.

The Highclimbers will try to extend their winning streak at the Lady Trapper Invite at Heritage High School in Vancouver Wednesday through Friday. Shelton faced Ashland, Oregon, Wednesday. The Highclimbers face Fort Vancouver at 3 p.m. today and wrap up the tournament tomorrow at 5 p.m. against Evergreen.

North Mason girls wrestling

Sadie Evans won and Sarah Flowers finished second in their respective weight-class tournaments at the North Mason Hawkins Memorial tournament Tuesday in Belfair.

Evans, wrestling at 140 to 146 pounds, won all three matches by pin, including a 56-second pin in the finals against Klahowya's Linley Wolford-Henry. Flowers won her opening match by pin in the 152-to-156 pound tournament, but lost in the finals to Lincoln's Kayla Reddick.

Sydney Amick took third place in the 141-to-155 pound tournament. Amick lost her opening match, but bounced back with a win by pin before falling 2-0 to North Kitsap's Emily Gomez to take third.

Mia Amick at 81 to 100 pounds, Evelyn Talbot at 111 to 116 pounds, Juliet Freemier at 117 to 119 pounds and Ariel Evans at 121 to 126 pounds each placed fourth in their respective tournaments.

The North Mason girls are wrestling next at a triple dual meet with Bainbridge and Port Angeles on Jan. 6 in Port Angeles.

Weather cancellations/reschedulings

Shelton boys were scheduled to face Kingston and Olympic on Dec. 22 and 23, but the games were canceled due to weather.
