A woman injured in a Christmas Eve apartment fire at 1100 North 12th St. at the Saratoga Springs Apartments died two days later at a Seattle hospital.
According to a news release from Central Mason Fire and EMS, CMFE responded to the fire around 6:30 p.m, arriving to find a resident attempting to put the fire out with a garden hose.
An elderly woman living in the residence collapsed and became unresponsive as the fire began, and paramedics immediately administered CPR. The woman was revived and transported to Mason General Hospital and was later transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with life-threatening injuries, and died Monday.
The fire was contained to the apartment and a dog and a cat were saved. CMFE thanked Faith Lutheran Church across the street, which opened its doors to allow a warm, dry place for evacuated residents who needed shelter during the fire. CMFE helped neighboring residents of four apartments find overnight housing.
The Shelton Police Department helped evacuate the apartment building and provided traffic control and increased patrols in the area to secure the building after the fire.
Island Lake Fire, West Mason Fire and Fire 4 assisted in battling the blaze. PUD 3 provided assistance in helping secure utilities.

House fire Monday
Island Lake Fire responded to a residential structure fire on E. Sylvan Heights Lane near Northcliff Road early Monday morning in Shelton.
According to Island Lake chief Brandon Searles, crews were able to quickly get the fire under control and all occupants were able to escape safely.
In an email to the Journal, Searles wrote that the house sustained heavy damage and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Central Mason Fire & EMS, Fire 4, Union Fire, West Mason Fire and Hoodsport Fire & EMS assisted in battling the blaze.
