Choirs, quintet perform Christmas concerts

Women of Note, the Harstine Island Community Choir and the Evergreen Brass Quintet perform a "Sounds of Christmas" concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

The two choirs will team again for a concert at 3 p.m. Dec. 11 at Harstine Island Community Hall, 3371 E. Harstine Island Road N.

Love INC hosts free workshops

The Shelton-based nonprofit Love INC (In the Name of Christ) and its partner churches are hosting free community workshops in November and December.

Retired pastor Terry Oliver conducts "Understanding Grief: A Class for Kids ages 6-12 and Adults" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. through Dec. 12, except Nov. 21, at Shelton First Baptist Church, 428 W Cota, Shelton. The classes give children the opportunity to talk about their grief, and an adult or caregiver should accommodate the child to the class.

Belfair resident Dilma Demartino teaches a tamale-making class from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 at Shelton First Baptist Church. Demartino owned a restaurant in Honduras, and will teach Mexican tamale cooking Dec. 4 and Central American tamales Dec. 11.

A free tamale dinner will follow a Spanish-language worship service at 5 p.m. both Sundays at the church.

A Christmas wreath-making workshop is hosted from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at Shelton First Baptist Church. This is a family event, and materials are provided.

Harstine group stages Christmas play

Harstine Island Theatre Club stages "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever' at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 and 3 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Harstine Island Community Club.

Admission is free.

Shelton group stages Christmas Carol musical

Connection Street Theatre stages "A Christmas Carol Musical" at 7 p.m. Dec. 2, 3, 9 and 10, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1212 Connection St., Shelton.

Weight loss group meets at Shelton church

Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets every Thursday at Shelton Community Church, 115 West Arcadia. Weigh-in is at 8:30 a.m., and the meeting begins at 9:20 a.m. For more information, call Joanne at 360-482-3161.

State parks free Friday

In honor of Native American Heritage Day, Friday has been designated as a free day at Washington State Parks and on land managed by the state Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Fish & Wildlife.

Visitors to state public lands are not required to display a Discover Pass for day-use visits.

It is the final free day of 2022.

The next free day on state-managed lands will be Jan. 1.
