City approves $40.5-million budget

The Shelton City Council on Tuesday passed a $40.5-million budget for 2023.

The $40,492,117 budget also has a General Fund appropriation of $15,949,791. The budget must be approved by the end of the year.

Last November, the council approved a $41.1 million budget for 2022.

The expenditures in the 2023 budget include $15,949,791 for the general fund, $2,066,825 for the street fund, $2,824,585 for the capital improvement fund, $7,030,664 for the sewer fund, $3,505,951 for the water fund, $1,906,410 for the solid waste fund, $1,617,991 for the storm drainage fund, $1,340,000 for the water capital fund, $1,042,000 for the sewer capital fund and $918,976 for the equipment rental fund.

Estimated funding sources for the general fund in 2023 total $14,417,470, including $2,846,400 in property tax, $3,515.360 in sales and use taxes, $1,276,600 in city utility taxes, $1,301,400 in noncity utility taxes, $1,007,475 in business and occupation taxes, $48,930 in other taxes, $301,900 for licenses and permits, $576,300 in intergovernmental revenue, $3,159,306 for goods and services, $92,550 for fines and penalties, and $113,250 in miscellaneous revenue.
