UPDATE: Rhodes takes lead in Clerk's race

2022 GENERAL ELECTION

WEB UPDATE: Republican challenger Charles Rhodes leads incumbent Democrat Sharon Moore-Fogo by 124 votes after Wednesday’s second ballot count in the race for Mason County clerk.

With Wednesday’s totals added in, Rhodes has 12,359 votes for 50.20%, while Moore-Fogo received 12,235 votes for 49.70%.

Moore-Fogo led the initial vote count Tuesday night. The next vote count update is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.

In the Mason County auditor’s race, Steve Duenkel took a seven-vote lead over Paddy McGuire in Wednesday’s count.

No other races saw significant changes.

Trask leads Gutierrez for county commissioner

Sharon Trask leads Miguel Gutierrez by 1,883 votes in the initial vote count Tuesday in the race for Mason County commissioner District 3.

“Wow, I’m grateful that people still have confidence in me to do the job,” Trask told the Journal. “I’m hoping that I continue to get more votes. I never know, I’m always anxious and nervous and it was good to see the results and have the hugs from people that supported me.”

Trask, the Republican incumbent, leads with 11,417 votes for 54.36%, while Gutierrez received 9,534 votes for 45.39%. Of the 44,045 registered voters in Mason County, 21,413 ballots have been counted so far for a turnout of 48.62%.

“You never know until it’s certified,” Trask said. “I am feeling a little confident though.”

Clerk

Sharon Moore-Fogo leads Charles Rhodes by 407 votes in the race for Mason County clerk.

Moore-Fogo, the Democrat incumbent, received 10,696 votes for 50.92% while Rhodes received 10,289 votes for 48.98%.

“I’m feeling excited, I am still hopeful that it continues that trend,” Moore-Fogo told the Journal. “I thought it would be close. I know Mason County is a pretty red county and some people vote for the party and not the person. I’m still hopeful the lead extends.”

The race is just as close as the primary, with Moore-Fogo narrowly defeating Rhodes 9,897 to 9,889.

“I want to thank the citizens of Mason County for their votes,” Moore-Fogo said. “I’m glad they realized experience does matter.”

Assessor

Patti McLean appears in line for reelection, leading George Blush by 3,030 votes in the race for Mason County Assessor.

“I’m feeling very good,” McLean told the Journal. “I was kind of expecting it but there’s always that little bit of doubt in the back or your head.”

McLean received 11,944 votes for 57.17%, while Blush received 8,914 votes for 42.67%. In the August primary, McLean received 11,542 votes to Blush’s 8,044 votes.

“I’m extremely happy. It’s an actual honor,” McLean said. “Thank you to all the voters and Dixie Smith, the three-term assessor, who was my biggest supporter.”

Blush said there are a lot more votes to be counted and he wanted to thank the 8,914 people that already voted for him.

“I was always realistic that it is never easy to win against an incumbent,” Blush told the Journal in an email. “I also know that the election is not over until the last count is tallied. I want to thank everyone who helped me with my campaign, my family and friends, and everyone who believes in our mission. This one may not go our way but don’t worry, my friends, I still have a lot of fight left in me!”

Coroner

Jaime Taylor received 15,138 votes for 95.80% of the tally for Mason County coroner. There were 664 votes for a write-in candidate for 4.20% of the total.

Prosecutor

Michael Dorcy received 14,451 votes for 95.32% of the total for Mason County prosecutor. There were 709 votes for a write-in candidate for 4.68% of the total.

Sheriff

Ryan Spurling received 14,846 votes for 95.62% of the tally for Mason County Sheriff. There were 680 votes for a write-in candidate for 4.38% of the total.

Treasurer

Lisa Frazier received 14,460 votes for 94.65% of the tally for Mason County treasurer. There were 818 votes for a write-in candidate for 5.35% of the total.

District Court Judge

George Steele received 13,133 votes for 96.46% of the tally for Mason County District Court Judge. There were 482 votes for a write-in candidate for 3.54% of the total.

Statewide Sixth Congressional District

Derek Kilmer has a 613-vote lead over Elizabeth Kreiselmaier in Mason County, but he has a 51,782-vote lead throughout all of the congressional district in his bid to win reelection to Congress.

Kilmer received 51.38% of the Mason County vote, but has received 61.8% of the total vote in Congressional District 6.

Kilmer has more than 60% of the vote in Kitsap and Pierce counties and has more than 70% of the vote in Jefferson County.

Senator

Patty Murray will have a sixth term as a U.S. senator, leading Tiffany Smiley with 56.92% of the overall vote.

In Mason County, Smiley leads with 10,937 votes for 51.34% to 10,315 votes. In the state, Murray leads with 980,199 votes.

Secretary of State

Steve Hobbs leads the race for Secretary of State with 49.97% of the vote against Julie Anderson.

In Mason County, Anderson leads with 11,120 votes for 53.73%.
