Taxpayers in the Shelton School District on Valentine's Day will vote on a proposed three-year levy.
The Shelton School Board on Tuesday night authorized the request for a Feb. 14 vote to collect $2.09 per $1,000 of assessed property value in 2024, 2025 and 2026. If passed by a simple majority, the money will be used to fund educational programs and operations not funded by the state, including reducing class size, special education, after-school programs, teachers, extracurricular activities, facilities operation and maintenance, transportation and technology.
If passed, the levy will collect $7.1 million in 2024, $7.6 million in 2025 and $8.2 million in 2026. It would replace an expiring three-year levy passed by district voters in the February 2020 special election.
In the levy resolution, the district states that the passage of the Feb. 14 levy "provides for approximately the same educational programs and operations purposes as the District's expiring three-year General Fund educational programs and expenses."
The Shelton School District operates three elementary schools, a middle school, a junior high school, and three high schools: Shelton, CHOICE and Cedar.
