Churches accept donations of gifts for children

Calvary Fellowship of Shelton and The Bridge Church in Belfair are accepting donations of gifts packed in shoe boxes for the annual international Operation Christmas Child drive.

Calvary Fellowship of Shelton is at 50 E. Island Lake Road. Donation times are 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 14, 3 to 5 p.m. Nov. 15, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16 and 17, noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 18, 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 19, noon to 3 p.m. Nov. 20, and 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 21.

The Bridge Church is at 23001 NE state Route 3 in Belfair. Donation times are 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 14 and 15, 2 to 4 p.m. Nov. 16, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 17, 2 to 5 p.m. Nov. 18, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Nov. 19, 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 20, and 8 to 10 a.m. Nov. 21.

Crafters wanted for Agate Grange Bazaar

The organizers of the Agate Grange Bazaar are seeking crafters for the event on Nov. 11 and 12. For more information, call 360-239-5265 or 350-870-7911.

Volunteers needed for downtown warming center

The Mason County Warming Center in downtown Shelton is seeking volunteers to help people come in from the cold and the rain.

Crazy Love Ministries operates the center. Volunteer shifts are available from 8 a.m. to noon daily. Duties include hospitality, food serving, closing and cleanup. Training will be provided. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and be able to pass a drug/alcohol urinalyses test, which the nonprofit group will pay for. They must also "be ready to demonstrate consistent commitment in their desire to serve their neighbors," the group states in a news release.

Love INC hosts free workshops

The Shelton-based nonprofit Love INC (In the Name of Christ) and its partner churches host free community workshops in November and December.

Retired pastor Terry Oliver conducts "Understanding Grief: A Class for Kids ages 6-12 and Adults" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Mondays Nov. 7 to Dec. 12, except Nov. 21, at Shelton First Baptist Church, 428 W. Cota, Shelton. The classes give children the opportunity to talk about their grief, and an adult or caregiver should accommodate the child to the class. Attendance at all five classes is recommended.

Belfair resident Dilma Demartino teaches a tamale-making class from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and 11 at Shelton First Baptist Church. Demartino owned a restaurant in Honduras, and will teach Mexican tamale cooking Dec. 4, and Central American tamales Dec. 11. A free tamale dinner will follow a Spanish-language worship service at 5 p.m. both Sundays at the church.

A Christmas wreath-making workshop is hosted from 1 to 5 p.m. Dec. 3 at Shelton First Baptist Church. This is a family event, and materials are provided.
