Shelton baseball falls to Ellensburg to end season
The Highclimbers had a lead against Ellensburg on May 21, but were unable to hang on as Ellensburg won 6-5 to end Shelton’s season in the State 2A baseball tournament at Davis High School in Yakima.
The Highclimbers were down 2-0 until the fifth inning, rallying with five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead. Ellensburg tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ellensburg walked off with the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh.
Shelton baseball finished the season 17-7 overall and 10-5 in Evergreen Conference games.
North Mason softball’s season ends at districts
The Bulldog softball team had its season come to an end May 20 and 21 at the District 2/3 softball tournament at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
North Mason started the tournament May 20 as the 10th-seed and needed to win four games to qualify for the state tournament. The Bulldogs won their opening game 15-0 in three innings against Tyee on May 20 and then upset the 8th-seed White River 15-2 to reach the consolation semifinals. The Bulldogs were back in action against North Kitsap on May 21, losing a close game 3-2 to end its season.
North Mason finished the season 12-9 overall and 8-6 in Olympic League games.
Waltermire shoots 93 at state golf tournament
Shelton’s Holmes Waltermire shot a 93 in the first day of the state 2A boys golf tournament at Capitol City Golf Club in Olympia.
Waltermire finished in a tie for 71st after the first day and did not make the cut to play in round two.
