Rest-A-While art & music fairs open Sunday

The summer and fall series of art and music fairs at the Rest-A-While RV Park in Hoodsport kicks off from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. It will include a memorial to recently deceased Journal columnist and writer Mark Woytowich at 2 p.m.

“Mark was such a treasure in our community, and is very missed,” said Rest-A-While Operational Manager Elizabeth Bennett, who recalled Woytowich as being warmly received by his fellow vendors and attendees at her seasonal fairs, where he sold his book “Where Waterfalls and Wild Things Are.”

“Being the Shelton-Mason County Journal’s outdoors columnist, his words uplifted us all,” added Bennett, who asked those who knew Woytowich to take part in the memorial by sharing stories, songs and memories of the man.

Bennett scheduled the rest of her art and music fairs for June 11, July 3, Aug 13, Sept. 4 and Oct 1.

The live music Sunday and on the following weekends is set to include TNT, a trio composed of lead vocalist and percussionist Theda Spracklin, guitarist Tom Quinlan and horn player “Cousin Vinnie” Anderson from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Open mic jams conducted by the husband-and-wife songwriting and performing duo of Mick and Laura McCartney, aka Rhythm & Sass, will be from 3 to 6 p.m.

Bennett urged vendors to set up canopies from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturdays, after providing her with prior notice. She warned the park can fit only seven to eight canopies in the front run, after which vendors must double up, behind or to the side.

“We had 16 to 18 canopies last year, so we’re confident we can fit everyone in,” Bennett said. “After the front run, the lawn setup is ready to go as first-come, first-served for canopies.”

Any canopies in place that are reserved for the Honeybee Café and other vendors will have names on them, “so thanks for respecting this,” and those who set up along the front, next to the waterfront clubhouse, must be willing to have canopies no bigger than 10-by-10 feet or 10-by-12 feet.

The Honeybee Café’s menu for the fairs includes grilled cheese, BLT, turkey, Reuben and egg sandwiches, and hamburgers, hot dogs, French and sweet potato fries, homemade potato salad and corn on the cob. Croissants, bagels and muffins also are available, along with espresso, coffee and ice cream.

Bennett reminded vendors and attendees that her art and music fairs are continuing to abide by the same COVID guidelines as area farmers markets in respect to crowd size and encouraging any needed social distancing measures.

“We are also encouraging masks, and will have hand sanitizer available,” Bennett said. “We’ll also have a bathroom set aside exclusively for fairgoers, so they can wash their hands and stay sanitary separate from our RVers.”
