United Way event coming to Allyn Waterfront Park

United Way of Mason County hosts the Spring Dessert & Gift Auction from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at Allyn Waterfront Park.

Official opening Friday of community garden

The Mason Conservation District, HOPE Garden and the City of Shelton host the official opening of a community garden from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at Callanan Park in Shelton.

Officials from all three groups will provide an overview of the garden and talk about workshops, with a garden bed demonstration at 5 p.m. Attendees can enter a raffle drawing to win a gardening kit and other prizes. Spanish interpreters offer their services.

No Shelton Relay for Life this year

Organizers for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Shelton fundraiser announced the event will not be hosted this year, but plans to return in 2023.

The American Cancer Society continues to accept donations at http://www.relayforlifesheltonwa.org.

Plant sale May 7 on Harstine Island

The Harstine Island Garden Club hosts its plant sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 7 at the Harstine Island Community Club.

Centennial Lions Club offers free tree seeds

Members of the Shelton Centennial Lions Club will give away Douglas fir tree seedlings May 7 at the Shelton Farmers Market on West Railroad Avenue in downtown Shelton.

The seed packets include a planting guide, printed in English and Spanish.

On Monday, club members distributed 1,944 seed packets to Shelton-area elementary students to help celebrate Earth Day on Friday. Green Diamond Resources donated the seeds, plastic bags and guides.

Plant, art and bake sale benefits old schoolhouse

The Pickering Community Club hosts a plant, art and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at the Grant School, 151 E. Community Club Road, Shelton.

Proceeds from the sale will benefit Grant School, a former one-room schoolhouse off East Pickering Road near Shelton.

Pioneer Kiwanis Club clam/crab dinner returns

The Pioneer Kiwanis Club hosts a crab and clam dinner, with a live and silent auction, May 21 at Pioneer Elementary School.

Proceeds from the event go to scholarships for Pioneer School District students and for programs that benefit Mason County children.

Tickets are $40 for adults, and $20 for children ages 2 to 12; kids under 2 are admitted free. The meal also includes spaghetti and coleslaw. Tickets are available from any Pioneer Kiwanis member. For questions or to donate an auction item, call Lee at 360-432-0136 or Pam at 360-426-2344.
