Sheriff’s Office contract with Monarch Children’s Advocacy Center approved
Mason County commissioners approved a contract extension between the Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division with Monarch Children’s Advocacy Center.
According to the information packet, the advocacy center conducts forensic interviews when the Mason County Sheriff’s Office is investigating abuse. The contract for services expired in August 2021 and the Sheriff’s Office wants to continue services currently conducted and extend the contract through Dec. 31, 2025.
The Sheriff’s Office said there are occasions when the subjects do not speak English well to communicate with investigators. Monarch agreed to procure a translator for interviews and run all invoices through the office to facilitate payments, which requires an amendment to the original contract.
Margot Connole appointed to Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency
Margo Connole was appointed to the Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging for a 2-year term.
According to the information packet, the term ends December 2024. The Area Agency on Aging is a government agency that provides home and community services for seniors and adults with disabilities to help them remain living in their own homes. The advisory council makes recommendations to the Council of Governments and staff.
Mason County Parks & Trails Advisory Board approves appointments
The Mason County Parks & Trails Board had three actions approved by the county commissioners at the March 29 meeting.
According to the information packet, the commissioners approved the reappointment of Mendy Harlow and the appointment of Shawn Fontana. The commissioners also approved removing Mike DeMatteo due to non-attendance. Mason County code allows for a board member to be removed if the commissioners hold a majority vote for cause.
