Seven historic Mason County women showcased

The Mason County League of Women Voters hosts a showcase of Mason County female leaders from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Mason County Historical Museum, 427 W. Railroad Ave., Shelton.

The seven featured woman who pushed boundaries, set an example of citizen participation and offered diversity are Anne Miller Pavel, Irene Davis, Xinh Dwelley, Maggie Velasco-Lucero, Ethel M. Dalby, Clara Eastwood and Mary M. Knight.

Club discusses gentrification of rural Washington

Jennifer Sherman, a professor of sociology at Washington State University, will talk about “Diamonds in the Rough — The Gentrification of Rural Washington” at the Inquiring Minds program hosted by the Harstine Island Community Club at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Harstine Island Community Center, 3371 E. Harstine Island Road North.

The program, presented in conjunction with Humanities Washington, is also online. Register at harstinecc.org/inquiring-minds/.

The Pickering Community Club hosts its plant and bake sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 14 at the center.

Activities aplenty at the Shelton senior center

Activities at the Mason County Senior Activities Center at the Pavilion, 190 W. Sentry Drive in Shelton include tai chi, yoga, line dancing, quilting, machine knitting, crafters, Monday art workshops, pool, bridge, pinochle, hand and foot care, cribbage, Mexican train dominoes, mahjong, bingo and movies on Tuesdays.

Proof of vaccination is required to enter the building.

United Way event at Allyn Waterfront Park

United Way of Mason County hosts the Spring Dessert & Gift Auction from noon to 2 p.m. April 22 at Allyn Waterfront Park.

Mason General offers help to new Medicaid patients

Mason General Hospital last month launched the Medicare Wellness Program for people who are turning 65 years old, or already have.

The hospital’s Annual Wellness team is reaching out to existing patients who are signed up for Medicare Part B coverage to schedule their first free Medicare Wellness visit. To schedule an appointment, call 360-426-2653.
