Gov. Jay Inslee announced the state mask mandate will end Saturday.
Inslee announced the new end date Feb. 28 after receiving new guidance from the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention and continued decreases in hospitalization rates in the state.
Masks won’t be required in schools, child care sites, libraries, restaurants, bars, houses of worship, gyms, recreation centers, indoor athletic areas, grocery stores, businesses and retail establishments. Masks will still be required in health care and medical facilities, long-term care settings, public transit, taxis, rideshare vehicles, correctional facilities, private businesses and local governments that want to require masks for their employees, customers or residents.
Mason County has a seven-day case rate per 100,000 people of 76.2 and a 14-day case rate of 260.5, a significant drop from two weeks ago when the seven-day case rate was at 851.4 and a 14-day case rate of 2,013.7. There was one death in the last two weeks, a man in his 40s was reported in the March 3 update from Mason County Division of Emergency Management.
