Donate cans to help youths

The Kristmas Town Kiwanis Club is collecting donations of aluminum cans to benefit programs and scholarships for Mason County youths from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 19 in the parking lot at Bob’s Tavern on First Street in downtown Shelton.

Polar Bear Plunge benefits emergency services

The Hood Canal Lions Club hosts the 12th annual Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Alderbrook Resort and Spa.

Proceeds benefit Mason County Emergency Services. The plunge is open to anyone who raises at least $25 in donations. The top emergency worker fundraiser, and the top resident fundraiser, will be recognized.

The event includes free coffee, hot chocolate, clam chowder and raffle prizes. Donations are tax-deductible. For more information, contact Ian Roberts at [email protected].

Master Gardeners host winter workshops

Mason County Master Gardeners host annual winter workshops on Zoom from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays. Bringing life and color to your garden is the topic Saturday, and planting vegetables on Feb. 19.

The cost is $15 for the series. Register at http://www.mgfmc.org.

$1,500 grant available for woman continuing school

The Shelton Chapter GQ of the Philanthropic Organization is offering a $1,500 grant to a local woman to continue her education.

To qualify, the woman must be a Mason County resident; a high school graduate or equivalent education; and be enrolled in the 2022-23 academic year at an accredited academic or technical college.

The money can be used for tuition, books, transportation, childcare or other expenses while attending. The award will be sent directly to the recipient.

Applications are available at Shelton and CHOICE high schools, Olympic College Shelton or by calling Dorothy Vonhof at 360-426-2175.

May 2 is the deadline to apply. Applications can be sent to PEO Education Committee, 522 Kari Court, Shelton 98584.

Shelton church hosts 12-week healing seminar

Faith Lutheran Church in Shelton is hosting its semiannual 12-week “Healing from Loss” seminar that begins at 2 p.m. today both online through Zoom and in-person at the church at 1212 Connection St.
