Shelton Boys basketball

Shelton had a busy week with four games, defeating Rochester and Aberdeen before a last-second loss to Black Hills.

The Highclimbers took down Rochester 73-38 on Jan. 25 at Terry Greg Court and hosted Aberdeen Jan. 27, earning a 73-28 win. Black Hills came to Shelton on Jan. 28, and lost on a last-second shot from Luke Ellison, 58-56. Shelton bounced back on Monday with a 61-53 win against the Tigers in Centralia.

Shelton (8-6, 6-4) wraps up the regular season with two road games, facing Tumwater on Friday and Aberdeen on Monday before the District 4 tournament begins Feb. 10.

Girls basketball

The Highclimber girls competed in four games last week, falling in all four Evergreen Conference contests.

Shelton lost to Rochester 48-10 on Jan. 26 on the road, lost to Black Hills 51-23 in Tumwater on Jan. 27 and lost to Aberdeen 55-30 on Jan. 28 in Aberdeen. The Bearcats came to Shelton on Monday and left with a 68-12 win.

The Highclimbers (0-13, 0-9) complete the season with three games at home, starting with Tumwater today, Centralia on Friday and Aberdeen on Monday.

Bowling

The Shelton girls bowling team completed its season last week with senior night and the District 4 tournament.

On Jan. 25, Shelton earned a win on senior night at Westside Lanes in Olympia, defeating Aberdeen, 1,456-1,379.

It is the first time Shelton has won against Aberdeen in two years. Kaitlyn Aronson and Marsybel Hernandez Zacarias each had their high match game and Kylee Moore was the star bowler in the baker games, recording three strikes on four attempts.

Shelton seniors Alexis Barringer, Marissa Betts and Emma Wiles were honored by the Highclimbers.

The Highclimbers ended their season Jan. 28 at Triangle Bowl in Longview at the District 4 tournament. Shelton did not qualify for state, but three bowlers recorded their high match game and Shelton recorded its high team game. Columbia River won the team title and W.F. West’s Piper Chalmers won the individual title.

North Mason Wrestling

North Mason earned a win against Sequim before falling to Olympic in Olympic League wrestling matches Jan. 26 in Belfair.

The Bulldogs defeated the Wolves, 66-36. North Mason’s Charles Broughton had the fastest win, pinning Sequim’s James Smith in 32 seconds in the 145-pound match. Isaiah Smith earned a win at 132 pounds by pin in one minute, five seconds on his senior night against Sequim’s Sam Fitzgerald. Jake Mathews won for the Bulldogs at 152 pounds, pinning Sequim’s Aaron Tolberd. North Mason’s Miguel Joquin earned a win by pin at 170 pounds against Sequim’s Roger Burmash and Chance Corwin won by pin for the Bulldogs at 220 pounds against Sequim’s Dylan Bowen.

In the lone girls match, North Mason’s Sydney Amick won by pin in 1:45 against Sequim’s Gloria Hudson at 140 pounds.

Olympic defeated North Mason, 54-42.

North Mason travels to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds on Friday to compete in the Olympic League sub-regional tournament.

Boys basketball

North Mason lost a close game, 65-59, to Kingston on the road in an Olympic League game Jan. 28.

The Bulldogs (1-11, 0-9) have four games this week, starting with road contests against Bainbridge on Tuesday and Bremerton on Wednesday. North Mason returns to Belfair on Thursday to face defending state champion North Kitsap and Seqium on Friday before wrapping up the season on senior night Feb. 9 against Olympic.

Girls basketball

The Bulldogs played four games last week and earned the win in one of those games in Olympic League contests.

North Mason traveled to Sequim on Jan. 25 and lost 67-20. The Bulldogs bounced back with a 60-45 win against Olympic on Jan. 27 before driving back to the Olympic Peninsula and falling to Port Angeles 71-27 on Jan. 29. The Bulldogs returned home on Monday and fell to Kingston, 60-40.

The Bulldogs (3-9, 1-9) hosted Bainbridge on Tuesday and Olympic on Wednesday.

North Mason wraps up the regular season on the road against North Kitsap on Thursday and hosts the Vikings on Feb. 8 on senior night.

Mary M. Knight Girls basketball

Mary M. Knight earned a win against Oakville before dropping a game to Raymond last week.

The Owls won a Coastal League game against Oakville 37-25 on Jan. 25. Mary M. Knight hit the road on Jan. 28 and lost to Raymond 31-10 in a nonleague game.

Mary M. Knight (6-9, 2-2) ends the regular season with senior night on Thursday against Wishkah Valley and travels to Taholah on Friday.

Boys basketball

The Owls lost two Coastal League games last week against North River and Oakville.

Mary M. Knight traveled to Oakville and lost 75-43 on Jan. 25 before hitting the road on Jan. 27, falling to North River 83-42.

The Owls (4-10, 3-4) host Wishkah Valley on senior night Thursday before taking on Taholah on the road Friday to end the regular season.
